Supplement Formulation Feasibility: Questions Before Sampling
Assess serving load, ingredient compatibility, processing, sensory, analytical and packaging questions before supplement development.
Can the target serving fit?
Provide ingredient identities, specifications and target amounts. Separate active amount from compound or blend weight; specify maximum units or portion size. Ask which targets fit the selected format and what changes in serving, format or composition would be required. A theoretical ingredient list is not a production specification.
Are the ingredients and process compatible?
Review market suitability, ingredient interactions, heat/moisture/pH exposure, blend or fill behavior and sensory constraints with qualified project reviewers. Identify what is known from existing documents and what requires bench work, analytical development, scale-up or packaging evaluation.
How will the product be measured?
Specify identity and relevant content tests, method suitability for the finished matrix, reporting units and sample plan. Define physical/sensory and contamination criteria as applicable. Agree storage conditions, package proposal and evidence needed for any shelf-life statement. Do not assume an ingredient certificate answers finished-product stability.
What closes feasibility?
A documented decision should state feasible within agreed limits, feasible with changes, or not yet demonstrated, with reasons and responsible owners. Record unresolved constraints, prototype plan, test deliverables, approvals and change controls before requesting commercial production.
