Private Label, Semi-Custom and ODM Scope Checklist
Clarify baseline formula, changes, approvals and deliverables before choosing a supplement development route.
Identify the starting point
Private label: identify an existing formula, specification and package baseline. Semi-custom: list every permitted change. Custom ODM: provide a target brief and evaluation milestones. These terms describe project scope on this website, not standardized regulatory categories. Confirm the written scope with your supplier.
Assign decisions and responsibilities
Record owners for formula, materials, samples, artwork, testing, release and change control. Ask what evidence is available and which new work is required. Agree formula-use rights, confidentiality, exclusions, sample rounds and document delivery in writing.
Compare scope before price
Separate development, sampling, testing, packaging components, tooling, production and shipping assumptions. A faster or cheaper quote is not comparable if it omits required work. Use a shared specification and record unresolved risks before approval.
